The Superyacht Cup Palma 2017
The Superyacht Cup is the longest running superyacht regatta in the world after the St Barth's Bucket in the Caribbean and promises to be a spectacular event once more.
Participating superyachts range in size from 24m to over 60m, moored stern-to in the Superyacht Cup Regatta Village located at Muelle Viejo with Palma Cathedral and Palm tree lined Paseo Maritimo providing a stunning back-drop. This year's event takes place fom 21-24 June.
With early summer conditions and reliable sea breezes, Palma offers idyllic racing conditions in the Mediterranean. Just a five minute walk from the Regatta Village there are boutique hotels, excellent restaurants, fantastic shopping and of course Gaudi inspired architecture, galleries and museums.
Participating Superyachts
Already 19 impressive superyachts have registered, including 28m Reichel Pugh designed Kiboko Dos, the 45m Wally Saudade, 50m Borkumriff IV, designed by Dijkstra and built by Royal Huisman shipyard, 33m Baltic-built Win Win, 38m Perini P2 and the recently launched 34m Nautor Swan built Highland Fling XV.

The SuperYacht Racing Association (SYRA) was formed in 2012 to represent the interests of participants in superyacht regattas around the world, to ensure fair, safe racing and to enhance the enjoyment for owners and race crews, true to the spirit of the event. The Superyacht Cup is owned and managed by Aquamarine Events and racing is run by a highly experienced team of international race officers and Real Club Nautico de Palma.
Application of the ORCsy Rule
Along with the SYRA, the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) continue to develop and improve the unique ORCsy rating system introduced in 2015. Last year technicians attended each of the nine events to make on-site observations and improvements in its application which now includes better evaluation of separation drag for deep keel boats and a more accurate windage assessment of gaff sail pans with a lot of rig.

The New Corinthian Spirit Class
Towards the end of 2016 the SYRA membership, in conjunction with ORC introduced the new Corinthian Spirit Class which has been very well received among the race community. To encourage more superyachts to participate in such events, the aim is to reduce regatta expenses, streamline access to a superyacht handicap, and minimse the impact on a captain’s resources in getting a yacht ‘race ready’.
Respect for the Ocean
It's well documented that the world's oceans are in crisis with plastic waste, oil spills and acidification threatening marine life and human health, and the Superyacht Cup actively engages crews and owners in following the practices set out under the Sailors for the Sea's Clean Regattas programme.
