A robber boarded an anchored Bulk Carrier, awaiting berthing instructions. The duty AB and OS spotted a robber on the main deck, near cargo hold No.2. Seeing the duty crew approaching, the robber jumped overboard and escaped. The duty officer was informed, the alarm was raised and the crew mustered. A search was carried out, but nothing was reported stolen.
Allmode Comment:
Although robberies from vessels at anchor are rare, when they do occur, the robbers tend to be armed and can be aggressive towards crew. Bulk Carriers are an attractive target, as they can carry various supplies that may be in need in a country which struggles with its own domestic issues.
