The summer charter season is fast approaching and we are here to help you get your yacht's wine cellar stocked with all the right wines. If you need to provision specific wines for your yacht owner or charterer then simply email or call and we will source exactly whatever you are looking for. If you need suggestions we can also advise, or if you just need a basic stock on board then we can put that together for you.

Below we suggest a basic core wines list to have on board, provided you have the space! If not, we can provide you with storage space in our temperature controlled cellar ashore.

There are nine basic styles of wine. Having an option of each on board will give you a broad range of tastes and styles to suit any guest and ensure you are ready for any occasion. These styles are based on the body of the wine - 'body' describes the weight and texture of a wine in your mouth.

Core Wine List Onboard

Full Bodied Red Wine

Full-bodied wines typically have more tannin, higher alcohol, and dark fruit flavors such as blackcurrant.

GRAPE EXAMPLES: Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec Nebbiolo Tempranillo Our suggestion: Chateau Chasse Spleen 2010( €39 ex VAT). Notes of cherry, blackberries and vanilla. Silky structure. A fine and vibrant wine.

Medium Bodies Red Wine

These wines have softer tannins and are usually fantastic food friendly wines.

GRAPE EXAMPLES: Sangiovese Zinfandel Grenache Merlot Barbera Valpolicella Wines GSM blends (such as Côtes du Rhône) Our suggestion: Valpolicella Superiore Marion Marcellise Vento 2009 (€33 ex VAT). Rich bouquet of red fruit and mocha. Well rounded and great concentration.

Light Bodied Red Wine

Light red wines are known for having lighter tannin, bright acidity and slightly lower alcohol with red fruit flavors.

GRAPE EXAMPLES: Pinot Noir Gamay Cinsault Our suggestion Churton Pinot Noir Marlbourough 2010 (€32 ex VAT). Fruit on the palate, a mix of deep strawberry with some black cherry notes, and an excellent long finish.

Rosé Wines

Every yacht this summer needs a good stock of Rose! Rose wine gains its color from the grape skins, but not enough to qualify it as a red wine. It will be light in tannins and fresh and fruity like a white wine.

REGIONAL EXAMPLES: Grenache Rosé Côtes du Rhône Rosé Provence Rosé Sangiovese Rosé Mourvèdre Rosé Pinot Noir Rosé Our suggestion Chateau D’Esclans Whispering Angel 2014 (€19 ex VAT).Primarily a blend of Grenache, Rolle and Cinsault, the nose is chock full of strawberry, redcurrant, with plenty of freshness on the palate.

Full Bodied White Wine

Typically, many rich whites undergo oak aging, to add that classic vanilla note, as well as a process called “Malolactic Fermentation”, which changes the type of acid in the wine to make wine taste creamier. These can age up to 10 years.

GRAPE EXAMPLES: Oaked Chardonnay Sémillon Viognier Our suggestion William Ferve Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume 2013 (€44 ex VAT). Very aromatic, combining fruity and floral notes. Elegant palate that blends power, raciness and roundness.

Light Bodied White Wine

Much lighter and usually described as crisp, zesty, tart! High acidity and best enjoyed young to preserve the fresh fruity flavours.

GRAPE EXAMPLES: Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio Sauvignon Blanc Our suggestion La Moussiere Alphonse Mellot (€29 ex VAT). Flowery, fruity bouquet with a lively supple taste. Intense citrus flavours balanced by savory, chalky tones and a tangy finish.

Aromatic White Wine

Fruit and floral aromas and can be both dry and sweet.

GRAPE EXAMPLES: Chenin Blanc (dry and sweet styles) Gewürztraminer (dry and sweet styles) Muscat Blanc (a.k.a. Moscato) (usually sweet, made occasionally in a dry style) Riesling (dry and sweet) Our suggestion Neiderhauser Hermannshohle Riesling Spatlese Donnhoff Nahe (€47 ex VAT). Medium - off-dry with 78 gram/litre residual sugar. Notes of slate and smoke. A wine of extraordinary poise, salivating lime, lemon and grapefruit notes, so effortless.

Dessert and Fortified Wine

Many different styles of dessert and fortified wines and many ways these are produced but as the title states, these are sweet wines with concentrated fruit flavours.

EXAMPLES: Port Sherry Madeira Late Harvest Wines Noble Rot Wines Our suggestion Klien Constantia Vin De Constance 2011 (€65 ex VAT). Concentrated flavours of apricot and orange zest with aspects of frangipani flowers abound. Mouth filling yet clean and focused, the wine tapers into a rich luscious finish.

Chamgagne and Sparkling Wine

Sparkling wines have bubbles and high acidity and range from white, rosé to red in color. It is important to have a Non vintage and vintage Champagne on board and a prosecco or cava.
