PYA and Worldchefs Certification for Yacht Chefs
The Professional Yachting Association (PYA) recently signed a reciprocal agreement with WORLDCHEFS whereby each will recognise the other as an Associate Member of their respective organisations.
PYA and WORLDCHEFS have agreed a reward programme including training and examinations making it possible for yacht cooks and yacht chefs to acquire the following Worldchefs/PYA Professional Culinary Certification Awards:
-
Worldchefs/PYA Certified Professional Chef / Chef de Partie (Yacht Chef Award Level 1)
-
Worldchefs/PYA Certified Sous Chef (Yacht Chef Award Level 2)
-
Worldchefs/PYA Certified Chef de Cuisine (Yacht Chef Award Level 3)
At each level training will include relevant Worldchefs criteria as well as yachting-specific criteria. Worldchefs standards conform to the certification currently available to land based chefs and cooks in the wider hospitality industry and educational institutes worldwide.
Candidates will need to meet entry requirements at each level and provide evidence of technical expertise, professional development and professional reputation. Training will be available if needed, and an assessment procedure will be required as part of the application process.
The application process involves menu planning, guests' profiles (cultural and dietary needs), recipes, recruitment, management and budgets. The evidence required will be in the form of photos, references, recognised Food Safety qualifications, testimonials and yacht service.
Details and entry criteria for each level are available from the PYA.
“PYA are delighted to have this collaboration with Worldchefs, with the intention of awarding and recognising the skills and experience of the amazing chefs who work in our sector. Yachting experience has often been left out of the loop with professional recognition. Worldchefs is giving yacht chefs the chance to credit these talents with an international endorsement.” says Joey Meen, Director of Training and Certification at PYA.
This is a very positive development allowing superyacht chefs to add a Worldchefs certificate to their CVs. President of Worldchefs, Charles Carroll, says, "Worldchefs are delighted to join forces with PYA and help to promote opportunities for chefs and cooks working in the yachting sector who seek international recognition for their professional skills, education and training.”
John Clancy, Education Director for Worldchefs adds, “This partnership will also contribute to the goal of both partners in raising and maintaining the highest culinary standards and training throughout the yachting industry."
