Mental Health Handbook from The Crew Coach
Recently, the Life is for Living event took place in Palma, an event championed by yacht crew and local business owners to raise awareness of mental health in the yachting industry. The urgency of this event was triggered by the recent suicide of a young crew member who sadly took his own life.
The purpose of the event was to provide information and educate crew on the warning signs associated with mental health issues and spread awareness of the resources available for managing their own mental health as well as providing support to others.
To share this information more widely, I've compiled a Mental Health Handbook for crew and shore based professionals.
In this practical handbook you will find:
-
The signs of mental health issues
-
How to signpost, who to signpost to, when to signpost
-
Strategies on how to help someone who is struggling with mental health
-
How to develop your own mental health action plan
-
A list of professional contacts who can help
Having worked in the mental health in both the private and public sectors, this is a topic I am passionate about and take a strong standing on. I am a huge advocate for mental health and wellness onboard, and as well as e-learning courses, I provide coaching and onboard workshops, counselling for crew and post informative vlogs and blogs for crew.
Whether you are personally looking to develop your knowledge of mental health or whether you are a shore based business, this is a valuable handbook to include in your induction process or simply to make available to your staff or crew.
