Superyacht Support Vessels: The Changing Nature of the Supply of Toys

With the largest superyachts breaking new ground, measuring in excess of 180m, support vessels are following suit both in size and sophistication.

More space means less compromise and there is no longer any need to settle for the middle ground.

Having a dedicated support vessel able to carry toys as well as tenders for a range of purposes, instead of one tender for all, is becoming very attractive.

M/Y Ulysees

With a superyacht's toys often being the most memorable part of a charter or cruise, the changing face of toy inventories is reaching new levels to the extent that watersport toys are now being deemed run of the mill.

A move to more head turning land-based toys is emerging and amphibious vehicles like the Quadski and Humdingha are top selling toys this year. Land based toys such as Polaris Rangers, Land buggies, motorbikes and supercars are also in great demand.

And it doesn't stop there. Submersibles and Icon Aircraft are also on the rise, and we're also designing, project managing and specifying landing crafts.

These are generally for transporting goods ashore but are also kept onboard larger yachts as remote fueling vessels for jetskis and other toys. A recent landing craft we supplied had a 2,000 litre fuel tank and acted as a fueling station for all the yacht's toys.

It's well documented that Superyacht Tenders and Toys recently outfitted M/Y Ulysees, a 107m Kleven explorer yacht. The extensive inventory of toys included a pair of J70 high performance sailing boats, Agusta and Ducati motorbikes and a collection of KTM mountain bikes.

A host of other tenders suitable for any situation is also stored on the foredeck and high up on both sides of the vessel. Ulysses is currently the world's fourth largest explorer yacht, soon to be overtaken by her 116m sister, hull 370, currently under construction at Kleven for the same owner.
