10 Things to do on Yacht Charter in St Tropez
The heart of St Tropez is Vieux Port where the local fishing boats moor beside the freshly polished superyachts ready for the season. Artists set up their easels quayside alongside tourists who plant themselves at harbourside cafés to watch the parade of people defining 'St Tropez'.
This quaint coastal town will forever conjure images of timeless chic, but there's more to do in St Tropez than watch the beautiful world go by. Here's a taste of the highlights when you step off the yacht...
Climb up to the Hilltop Citadelle
The ancient Citadelle fortifications sit atop the hill over St Tropez with glorious views of the town and Bay of St Tropez. You'll also find a Maritime Museum worth a visit, and just below the Citadelle there's the Cimetière Marin with burial plots of celebrities.
Browse the Art Collections at Musée de l'Annonciade
Near the southwest corner of Vieux Port, you'll find this charming museum with art collections from famous painters including Dufy, Signac and Matisse.

Relax at Place des Lices
The social hub of the town, Place des Lices is a succinct snapshot of daily life in St Tropez - regular markets on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, boules under the plane trees, bars and cafeterias with patrons sipping pastis or 'un café'. It's the simple life St Tropez style!
Enjoy Annual Festivals and Celebrations
St Tropez has a vast history stretching from a sea-faring past to religious celebrations and importance in creative arts. Join in on the vibrant (and noisy!) Les Bravades celebrations each year, the buzzing Euro Festival that sees 10,000 Harley Davidson enthusiasts ride from Grimaud or the Regates Royales sailing regatta
Walk the Sentier du Littoral Coastal Path
As with much of the French Riviera, the coastline has wonderful walking trails. The 20km Sentier du Littoral starts at the Tour du Portalet at the end of the Quai Mistral and follows the coastline past small creeks, coves and sandy beaches including points of interest as plage des Graniers, the Bay of Canebiers, plage de la Moutte and plage des Salins.
Immerse in the 'Gendarme' History!
During summer months, charter guests may notice a curious-looking French gendarme along the quayside at Vieux Port - he is truly comical and often stops cars, blowing his whistle. The 'gendarmerie' has a strong history for St Tropez and as well as Brigitte Bardot's cinematic attention to this small fishing village, St Tropez's popularity rose with the release of the French comedy 'Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez' in 1964 starring Louis de Funès.
The movie was very popular and resulted in a series of movies - Le Gendarme à New York, Le Gendarme se Marie, Le Gendarme en Balade, Le Gendarme et les Extraterrestres, Le Gendarme et les Gendarmettes - some of which were filmed many years later. So, you'll notice lots of tourists taking photos of the local French gendarmes! You can also visit the Museum of Gendarmes and Cinema with displays of film memorabilia
Stroll to La Ponche
La Ponche is the old fishing quarter of St Tropez with La Ponche and La Fontanette beaches and quaint townhouses with salt-blasted shutters overlooking the bay. Here you'll find a great restaurant too at Hotel de la Ponche; their seafood is excellent and service welcoming.
Go Shopping St Tropez Style
St Tropez is great for shopping with a range of stores selling everything from chic homewares to designer fashion and boho chic jewellery. Head to rue Allard or rue François Sibilli for high-end brands, browse the racks at Bla Bla for beachwear to parade at Pampelonne beach or grab a slick pair of designer sunglasses for those sunny days onboard your private yacht from The Box on rue de la Citadelle
Sip a summertime drink
St Tropez has no shortage of trendy beach clubs, posh wine bars or heaving nightclubs. For daytime drinks, grab a balcony seat at portside Hotel Le Sube or lounge with a cocktail at Tahiti Beach or Les Palmiers. For a relaxed sundowner, head to the poolside bar at 5-star Hotel Sezz, a few kilometres out of central St Tropez. When the sun sets, the temperature rises at hot nightspot Les Caves du Roy where the Champagne and dancing will see you through the night!
