Late Summer Cruising Destinations with Evolution Yachting
Thinking back to only a few months ago when we weren't even sure if 2020 would be giving us a summer season, it is such a relief and a pleasure to see boats doing what boats should do and to hear of our clients enjoying cruising more than ever – seeing an alternative side to their usual destinations as well as exploring new ones.
Even in normal times who doesn't wish for the never-ending summer but this year we are working even harder to provide our yachts with options for extending the season as long as possible to make up for the late start. And the bountiful Mediterranean is all-giving in this respect. Even in October we can enjoy balmy evenings in Corfu, ambient waters in Nafplio and sun-kissed beaches in Formentera. And we should not disregard November either, although water temperatures may not be too inviting, Gocek is still open for business in the early weeks and magnificent sunsets in Menorca can be toasted with a fresh and fruity cocktail on the aft-deck.
Our top picks for extended cruising this October and November are Turkey, Greece and the Balearics where the Evolution Yachting team are still relishing the summer vibes and ready and waiting to receive you and your guests.
Turkey
The Lycian coast stretches from Marmaris to Fethiye and offers numerous bays, villages and marinas to visit, all pleasant and welcoming in October and November. Siralibuk Bay and Butterfly Valley are just two to mention, offering peaceful, remote anchorage spots and beautiful beaches. If the water is a tad nippy head further south to the sunken ruins of Kekova for a charming mix of ancient, medieval and modern history or to Bodrum and the Carian Coast further north with its gentle sailing conditions, picturesque bays, famous rock tombs and other historical remnants of bygone rich and ancient cultures.
Greece
According to the locals, September and October are the best months of the year in Corfu, not only for the quieter beaches but because of the unarguably perfect weather; the waters are still welcoming and evenings warm enough for al fresco dining. The picture perfect coastal village of Nafplio is the preferred winter weekend getaway for Athenian aristocracy thanks to the sunshine filled days, perfect for a stroll along the pristine waterfront promenade as far as the fortress and its lookout over the bay. From here visit the cute Peleponnese mountain villages of the Mani peninsula or head to the southern part of Greece and the firm wintertime favourite, Crete, whose spirited summer vibe is maintained throughout the cooler months and offers plenty to explore should you decide on a longer stay.
Balearics
The Balearics are still welcoming well into October and although many of the beach bars may be packing up, during the day it can still be t-shirt weather so perfect to hike Es Vedra in Ibiza or to discover the Lost City or the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dalt Vila. Mallorca´s year-round delights include the picturesque towns of Valldemossa, Soller and Deia as well as offering exclusive visits to olive groves and wineries for tastings whatever the weather. Meanwhile, Menorca´s tranquility is unrivalled during these months as are the sunsets from the lighthouse in Punta Nati.
Evolution Yachting has 20 offices across the Mediterranean; Spain, Italy, France, Monaco, Greece, Turkey, Montenegro, Croatia and Albania.
