Pete Southgate Appointed Co-chair of ISS Technical Committee
The International Superyacht Society (ISS) is pleased to announce Mr. Pete Southgate, Wright Maritime Group, has been appointed as co-chair of the ISS Technical Committee. Southgate is a shipbuilder, naval architect and marine surveyor with experience spanning 30 years in the maritime industry and is a member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects.
After a period with Lloyd's Register, London, specializing in yachts and passenger ships, Southgate worked with the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), and was involved in the implementation and expansion of the Large Yacht Code and directly responsible for the development of LY2.
Southgate joined the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry as a marine surveyor, Shipping Master and policy advisor. More recently, Southgate played a lead role in the development of the Red Ensign Group Passenger Yacht Code, which was first published in November 2011.
Adding to his previous certifications and degrees, Southgate obtained a law degree from the University of London in 2009 and recently completed the Legal Practice Course with the University of Law in London.
The ISS Technical Committee—co-chaired by AJ Anderson of Wright Maritime Group (WMG)—works with yacht builders, flag state and port state regulators, classification societies and crew organisations in developing appropriate regulations and best practices for the yacht industry.
