PYA Travels in 2014
Antibes Yacht Show
In April we held our first edition of the year of the PYA Sea Changes seminar. Industry speakers discussed training requirements within MLC for all departments, certification updates, the Yachtmaster qualification, use of Killcords, Personal Watercraft, the PYA GUEST Programme, and gave an update on Ship's Cook requirements.
Genoa
We were present at the MYBA Charter show in April and May, attending with the sole purpose of offering impartial advice to Deck, Engineering and Interior crew about current and future training obligations and Continuous Professional Development.
Monaco Yacht Show
As well as holding a stand within to show to meet current and prospective members, we held the latest edition of the PYA Sea Changes Seminar at the headquarters of the International Hydrographic Organisation. This attracted over 250 participants and extensive media coverage. With a busy year of changes to yacht qualifications, the seminar was extended to 3 days, offering detailed discussions to targeted audiences.
Palma & Barcelona
The PYA were 'on tour' in the marinas of Barcelona and Palma from the 13th to the 16th October to meet with crew and update them on the latest changes to the MCA yacht qualification route. We also hosted two 'Meet the PYA' events, offering a short presentation about current PYA activities and a chance for one on one advice regarding yachting career paths.
Fort Lauderdale
All Members were invited to attend the PYA Sea Changes Seminar at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in November. Topics for discussion included Yacht certification updates, Yacht Tender Course, PYA Interior Training GUEST update, Chef Incentives, USCG Certification, and Ship’s Cook Requirements.
Amsterdam
PYA were invited to attend the Global Superyacht Forum in November to chair a workshop on Manning: Building the right workforce at the same time as building the right yacht - are we mentoring and training enough?
Antigua
We attended the Antigua Charter Show from the 5th to the 11th December to meet with crew to discuss their career and certification questions, and provide an update regarding latest changes to the MCA yacht qualification route.
