McMurdo AIS MOB Devices Approved For Sale in Canada

McMurdo, the most trusted name in Emergency Readiness and Response, today announced that Transport Canada has granted Type Acceptance approval for the company’s Smartfind S10 and Smartfind S20 AIS Man Overboard (MOB) devices, which allows these devices to be imported and sold for commercial maritime and recreational boating use in Canada.

McMurdo AIS MOBs now compliment the range of McMurdo safety products already on the market in Canada, which includes PLBs and EPIRBs.

Smartfind S10 AIS MOB

Waterproof to 60 meters, the Smartfind S10 is designed to be carried by divers, boat crews, or anyone who spends time on the water for work or leisure purposes.

When manually activated, the Smartfind S10 transmits both AIS and GPS data to the vessel the individual has come from, and to other AIS equipped vessels within a typical four mile radius to give precise location information to aid the recovery of persons in difficulty at sea.

Bearing and distance information is accurately transmitted and displayed on the AIS receiver or plotter, giving potential rescuers all the information they require to carry out swift retrieval of an individual.

The Smartfind S20 is worn on a lifejacket and activated by sliding off the safety tab and lifting an arming cap to deploy the antenna.

The compact, lightweight unit is an effective aid to recovering crew and passengers who have fallen overboard by sending alert messages, GPS position and a special identity code directly to AIS receivers within approximately a four mile radius.

A flashing LED light aids location at night. A built-in high precision GPS receiver - which updates every 60 seconds – provides precise location, distance and bearing data. Onboard crew members (and nearby AIS-enabled receivers) receive all the information they need to locate the position of the person in difficulty, enabling a speedy recovery.
