Panerai British Classic Week: Cowes 16-23 July
Panerai British Classic Week is held from 16-23 July at Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Now in its 15th year, and part of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, Cowes is also home to the Royal Yacht Squadron which organises the regatta at the British Classic Yacht Club.
Cowes week attracts entries from Britain and Europe and this year also from Australia and New Zealand. The regatta is an occasion for classic yacht enthusiasts to enjoy great racing and to share their appreciation of the classics with other sailors.
The regatta, part of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, has been held every year since the America’s Cup Jubilee was hosted by Cowes in 2001.
Spectators will have the chance to see one of the stars from the Mediterranean stages of the Challenge, the beautful William Fife III-designed 31m gaff cutter, Mariquita, built at the W. Fife & Son yard back in 1911. Other entrants include numerous Eight and Six Metres which are sure to provide some exciting duels in the waters of the Solent.
The Panerai British Classic Week provides exhilarating racing and spectacular views from ashore with the Concours d’Elegance taking place this year on Sunday 17 July. The challenging Around The Island Race takes place on Monday 18 July. Racing and social events continue through Friday 22 July, concluding with celebrations at the exclusive prize-giving ceremony.
