Superyacht Cup 2018: 19-23 June 2018
Racing for the J Class: 20-23 June 2018
Racing for Superyachts: 21-23 June 2018
The longest running and largest superyacht regatta in Europe returns for its 22nd edition in 2018. The event is one of the most anticipated on the superyacht racing circuit and enthusiasts will be delighted this year by the return of the majestic J-Class, which last competed at Palma in 2014. Among the J-Class already signed up are Velsheda (38m), Ranger (41m), Topaz (43m) and Svea (44m), the latest addition to the J-Class fleet.
Competition is set to be tough, giving participants and spectators a thrilling event; of the thirteen superyachts already entered, a number have tasted victory before and will be vying to raise the cup again. The 45m Wally Saudade came third in class in 2017 and boasts three consecutive Loro Piana wins. Another competitor accustomed to racing fame is the 33m Inouï, that makes a splash due to its crew's handling on the water and its vibrant colour scheme.
Meanwhile, the classic 32m Frers-designed Bolero is not to be outshone, having sailed to overall victory in 2017; the consummate team will want to get their hands on the trophy once more at the 22nd edition.
The exceptional levels of skill on display ensure nailbiting performances to keep pros and racing fans on the edge of their seats: 2018 will be no exception. Win Win, the Baltic built flyer will be back, putting the team's crew work and tactical skills to the test in order to live up to their name and repeat 2017's victory in Class A.
Second place finisher Ribelle, a speedy 34 m is also not to be counted out of the running. Captain Federico Biatturi has fighting talk: "All five of us were very close, of course we will be back and we will try and win next time!"
As the undisputed heart of sailing in the Med, Palma de Mallorca enjoys excellent conditions offshore, and all the charms and attractions one could need onshore including hotels, restaurants, culture and nightlife within five minutes of the Regatta village on the Muelle Viejo. The programme of social events is one of the highlights of the Superyacht Cup, drawing back professionals, yachties and the jet set year after year to catch up in a laid-back environment, have a good time and establish business contacts.
As in previous years, management of the 2018 Superyacht Cup Palma will be in the expert hands of the prestigious Real Club Náutico de Palma.
