8th Vendée Globe Underway in Perfect Conditions
On Sunday 6 November, in Les Sables d’Olonne, over 300,000 spectators,1000 boats and 29 competitors gathered for the start of the 8th Vendée Globe round the world race, signaled by HRH Prince Albert II of Monaco at 12.02pm in perfect weather conditions.
Kito de Pavant (Bastide Otio), Paul Meilhat (SMA), Tanguy de Lamotte (Initiatives Cœur) and Vincent Riou (PRB) got off to a great start, while Bertrand de Broc (MACSF) and Enda O’Coineen (Kilcullen Voyager - Team Ireland) were called back after a false start to cross the line again.
The NNE’ly winds should pick up to around 20-22 knots during the night, rising to 30-35 knots as they approach Cape Finisterre on Monday morning.
