MUSTO Announces Partnership With Team Vestas Wind

World's leading offshore sailing brand MUSTO officially announce their partnership with Vestas, the world leader in wind energy, in the 2014 Volvo Ocean Race

MUSTO is proud to officially announce their support for Team Vestas Wind. 

The first-ever Danish boat to compete has proved that minimal time on the water isn’t a barrier with the new one-design Volvo Ocean 65 by winning Leg 0 and finishing in 4^th place on Leg 1.  

Other crews taking part in this year’s race had on average six times as much training behind them when they arrived in the race start port of Alicante but, with such an experienced collection of sailors including Australian skipper Chris Nicholson leading the team in his fifth Volvo Ocean Race the team has a wealth of sailing talent on board.

The team also features plenty of young talent - two Danish sailors in Peter Wibroe and Nicolai Sehested, who is the youngest Dane ever to take part in the Race at just 24 years old, and 23 year old Australian Tom Johnson.

Team Vestas Wind are wearing customised HPX suits which, now they’ve descended into the Roaring Forties, the team have been living in to ensure they can keep physically pushing hard even when facing extreme cold with water constantly pouring across the decks.  However, the team Vestas Wind kit bag is subtly different to what previous teams have required. 

With this year’s race routing through warmer climates the kit bags required by this year’s competitors require far more hot weather protection including UV shirts and fast dry shorts.

The Volvo Ocean Race, with stopovers in 11 cities in 11 countries covering a total of 38,739 nautical miles, is considered as the world's toughest ocean race, testing the skill, dedication and endurance of competitors to the maximum. MUSTO will ensure the team is kept in peak performance as they take on one of their toughest ever challenges.

Ocean Racing is a fundamental part of MUSTO, who announced their position as official supplier of sailing apparel and footwear for the next two editions of the Volvo Ocean Race. MUSTO's association with the historic race stretches back to 1981/82 when they partnered winning boat Flyer II and they have continued to be involved as a supplier in all-subsequent editions. 

For the duration of the Volvo Ocean Race, Team Vestas Wind are kitted out in customised MUSTO HPX in navy and orange.

Skipper Chris ‘Nico’ Nicholson commented on the partnership, saying: "We may have had less group training time under our belt when we arrived in Alicante, but we’ve now we’ve won Leg 0 and achieved fourth place on Leg 1 we’ve proved that we’re going to make our mark on this Race.  

Having worked with MUSTO in the 2011-12 edition of the Race they were my first choice to work with.
