Newport Charter Yacht Show
Next week, the captivating scene in Rhode Island’s Newport Harbor will be embellished with over $100 million worth of world-class yachts who have come to town to showcase their luxury accommodations and professional crews at the 34th annual Newport Charter Yacht Show.
Scheduled from June 22-25 at the expansive Newport Yachting Center waterfront facility, the show invites industry professionals and discerning customers (attending with brokers) to explore the wide spectrum of yachts available for charter vacations in New England this season.
A selection from the many noteworthy vessels participating this year is as follows:
M/Y Big Eagle: Stretching to an impressive 172 feet, superyacht Big Eagle can comfortably host 12 guests in its six staterooms, and its full-service crew of ten ensures the finest in hospitality. The yacht, originally built in Japan in the 1980s, made its silver screen debut as Big Sugar in the 1996 Demi Moore film “Striptease.”
In 2008, the vessel underwent a complete refit and later that year was ranked 53 in Power & Motoryacht’s “America's 100 Largest Yachts” issue. Big Eagle is available for charter this season at a weekly rate of $140,000 plus expenses.
S/Y Gloria: The 128-foot luxury schooner Gloria was built in 1986 with the goal of making her a modern incarnation of the famous 1936 Alfred Mylne-designed schooner Panda. Refits in 2004, 2006 and 2009 have further enhanced her already stellar pedigree, with the yacht’s sumptuous mahogany interior featuring bespoke moldings and finishes throughout.
When it comes to performance, Gloria is equipped with first-class technology, including self-furling sails and powered winches. Gloria is available for charter this season at a weekly rate of $38,000 plus expenses.
M/Y Rena: The luxury 145-foot vessel Rena's sophisticated exterior design and engineering are the work of Jack Hargrave. Built in 1989, the yacht underwent its last major refit in 2011 and is in impeccable condition. This spring, even more extensive improvements were made throughout Rena’s interior and engine room.
Its classic nautical interior offers an atmosphere of quiet elegance in the beam-to-beam saloon and equally spacious dining room. Each of the yacht’s five exquisite staterooms is complete with an en suite bathroom and private jacuzzi, accommodating 10-12 guests comfortably.
Rena's outdoor space is wonderful for relaxed entertaining, with an aft deck perfect for large alfresco dinners and an upper deck with a grill and bar made for cookouts and cocktail parties. Rena is available for charter this season at a weekly rate of $105,000 plus expenses.
M/Y Far Niente: Launched in 2014, the 130-foot custom Westport Far Niente was built using the newest technology and hardware on the market. The motoryacht’s interior follows an open floor plan and boasts state-of-the-art accommodations.
One of its most notable amenities is a spacious sky lounge with panoramic views that are complemented with plush furnishings, a fireplace and a game table. Far Niente is available for charter this season at a weekly rate of $130,000 plus expenses.
S/Y Whisper: Winner of the 2004 ShowBoats Award for “Best Sailing Yacht Under 40 Meters,” the 116-foot Whisper blends a timeless classic design with the modern comforts of a five-star hotel. Built in 2003 by Holland Jachtbouw in The Netherlands, the aluminum yacht features a teak-adorned interior with intricate inlays and custom carvings throughout.
This summer, the yacht will be giving back to the waters in which it charters by donating a portion of the season’s sales in New England to Project Puffin, an organization that protects the region’s rare seabirds of the same name and their nesting islands. Whisper is available for charter this season at a weekly rate of $60,000 plus expenses.
S/Y Jupiter: When it comes to the 100-foot yacht Jupiter, beauty and performance go hand-in-hand, with the vessel boasting lavish accommodations and a highly experienced captain and crew capable of taking guests on cruises to the most remote and exotic destinations around the world. Launched in 1989, the sailing yacht has embarked on a number of circumnavigations.
Jupiter underwent a refit in 2013 and is now outfitted in the latest technology and a renovated interior to ensure its guests comfort for offshore charters. Jupiter is available for charter this season at a weekly rate of $35,000 plus expenses.
M/Y Seafarer: The 101-foot Hargrave custom yacht Seafarer was launched in 2008, and its sophisticated exterior design incorporates a personalized fly bridge and raised pilothouse. The motoryacht’s timelessly styled interior creates an elegant yet comfortable atmosphere and can sleep up to eight guests in its four deluxe staterooms. With a crew of four including a private chef, there’s the option for formal interior or alfresco dining in the multiple entertaining areas on the upper and lower decks. The walk-around decks, country kitchen and community spaces were all designed as social areas. Seafarer is available for charter this season at a weekly rate of $42,500 plus expenses.
S/Y Orion: Orion’s spacious layout is ideal for large families, accommodating eight guests comfortably in its four sprawling cabins. The 90-foot catamaran’s starboard pontoon houses the master stateroom and a spacious ensuite marble bathroom that connects to a small cabin, making it ideal quarters for a family with children. In addition to lush accommodations, Orion also provides five-star hospitality with an experienced professional crew and a gourmet chef whose dishes can satisfy even the most discerning palates; she is even trained in raw, vegan and vegetarian fare.
