High Tech at Les Voiles de St Barth 2015
These two carbon fiber monohulls each has its own characteristics, including technology tested on other boats before them and now combined for the first time with the latest innovations, transforming them into record machines equipped with the latest high-tech weapons!
Comanche stands out from the other 100’ Maxis due to its large width, its mast quite far aft, a canting keel, and a big open deck, as well as a voluminous sails but no spinnakers. The cockpit was designed for manual maneuvers, while lateral ballasts helped considerably lower the center of gravity and add power.
Rambler 88 decided to make a statement with its rudders, shaped like the fin of a humpback whale. It has an angled hull, center boards positioned closer to the axis of the boat, and a canting keep that make it a powerful, high-performance boat.
Another high-tech boat, Bella Mente, was built at the NEB shipyard. Every engineering and mechanical detail of the boat was conceived to give it the best possible performance.
In the multihull arena, the Mod 70 Phaedo, ex Foncia, stands out for its power and extremely lightness. This generation of trimarans marry modernity, performance, and reliability, with a sail layout adapted for ocean racing, curved foils for better performance and more security, as well as a monolith carbon mast that +/- 8°.
One or two GC 32s are also expected to race in April. These new 32’ multihulls have a tendency to fly above the waves, giving them the nickname of “flying cats!”
