Yacht Captains Conquer Cogs 4 Cancer
Captains cycle 770km in six days and raise €280,000 for cancer charities!
At precisely 4.30pm on Friday 10th October 2014 the Cogs 4 Cancer captains & riders rode onto the IYCA in Antibes, France.
Superyacht captain Hamish Burr commented “being a captain on the IYCA and coming home to a welcome like this was a spine tingling experience. Globally, it’s been an amazing achievement but this was not just a challenge it was a chance to give something back to the superyacht industry”
The Cogs 4 Cancer riders including nine captains & engineers plus seven brokers and superyacht industry leaders raised more than €280,000 for Cancer Research UK and local French charities.
Captain Alan Griffith who completed the event with a titanium hip commented “I am immensely proud of what we have done, being a captain certainly helped, to ride almost 100 miles every day you needed to raise your energy levels and motivate yourself over six days, its not like a marathon but I’d do it again in a heartbeat”
Billed as the superyacht shipyard tour, the event attracted more 70 industry sponsors and saw the cyclists ride from CRN shipyard in Ancona, via Lusben, Baglietto & Amico, finishing in Antibes on the IYCA opposite the new Monaco Marine shipyard.
Captain and Cogs 4 Cancer organizer Ben Young reflected “as captains we get paid to organize, project manage and put on a show for our owners and guests. To work alongside other professional captains and some extremely clever businessmen towards a common goal was physically and mentally demanding but immensely rewarding”
