Marina key feature of new Montenegro resort
A 250-berth marina will be a key feature of a new One&Only Resort located at Kumbor on the northern shore of the Bay of Boka Kotorska in Montenegro. The luxury resort, known as Portonovi, is set to be opened in 2016. The marina has been designed by UK consultants Marina Projects Ltd (MPL).
Planned to be a world class facility, the marina will be able to accommodate yachts of 10m-75m (33ft-246ft). It is seen as having scope as both a visitor and homeporting location.
Commenting on MPL's involvement, Jeff Houlgrave said: "We are delighted to be working as part of Portonovi's international multi-disciplinary team, led by architects Harper Downie. From our experience in the region and further afield (MPL are involved with the nearby Porto Montenegro project) we are able to bring a unique design perspective to Portonovi's marina."
The whole development is being overseen by Azmont Investment d.o.o. and in addition to the marina it will also include a VIP yacht club, helipad, a dedicated pier for visiting superyachts and a berth for boutique cruise ships. A hotel, villa and retail outlets are also part of the project which will extend over a 60-acre site.
Azmont brings together the investor interests of Kerzner International Holdings, a leading international developer and operator of resorts, casinos and luxury hotels, and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan which is the preferred bidder appointed by the Montenegro Government for the project.
Kerzner is working with Triangle Investment & Development Ltd which is acting as the agent of the Azerbaijan company.
James Wilson of Azmont Investments commented: "Montenegro is a culturally rich destination that is catchting the attention of a truly international audience. As part of our work we are looking to maintain and enhance the surrounding areas whilst at the same time delivering an unparalleled luxury mixed-use resort."
Construction of the project is due to start at the end of this month comprising the One&Only resort with 120 guest rooms, villas and suites, a wellness spa, tennis academy, luxury beach club, sports arena and conference centre. Waterfront shops cafes and restaurants, a fish and organic food market and botanical gardens are also included.
