Rise in Illegal Fishing Threatens to Revive Somali Piracy

Records clearly indicate there has been a dramatic decrease in the number of ‘Reported’ piracy attacks in the Southern Red Sea, Bab-El-Mandeb, Gulf of Yemen and the Horn of Africa. In fact as recently reported the highjacking of the two Iranian fishing vessels in March with 48 Iranian crew onboard was the first successful highjacking since May 2012.
