General Information & Marina Services
The Port de la Darse is a historic military port that was built in 1550 in the bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer. For centuries it has prided itself on being the only natural deep-water port in this region of the Mediterranean. It was decreed a Royal Port in 1713, and a dry dock was added soon after for the construction of galley ships, as was a barracks and a hospital which can still be seen today.
Villefranche-sur-Mer is a small fishing village and seaside resort on the Cote d'Azur just a short distance east of Nice and close to the French border with Italy. Its citadel, looming over the bay and port, is a UNESCO world heritage site and the entire port is listed on the French Historic Monuments Register.
Villefranche old town has narrow cobbled streets that slope steeply down to meet the harbour, the longtime economic and social heart of the town. Many lively bars, restaurants and shops can be found in the vicinity. The marina is close to the beaches with their rows of cafe terraces and seafront restaurants. A small fishing fleet operates from the harbour and in the local smaller Port de la Sante a little further up the coast; many of the restaurants serve the catch of the day.
The port accommodates yachts up to 35m LOA, with a draft of 4m and beam of around 8m.
